Mike Gillissie, resident
of Carleton
Place, member of the
Carleton Place Chamber
of Commerce, and
president of ROSE
Environmental Services
Limited was
presented the Capital
Educator’s Award from the Ottawa
Carleton Research Institute (OCRI.)
Mike was nominated by students in
the Occupational Safety and Health
program at Algonquin College where
he teaches Ergonomics, Industrial
Hygiene and Legislation. The award
recognizes teachers who have made a
difference and have exhibited excellence
in their programs.
Locally Mike
has provided health and safety consultation
and training to employees of to
the Town of Carleton Place and to
businesses such as DRS.
The Capital Educators’ Award is given
to those educators that instill confidence
and a passion for learning in
their students. Of more than 300
nominees, only 20 were award recipients.
Nominations were open to edu-cators in all four publicly funded school boards, two colleges and four
universities located within the City of
Ottawa.
A panel of judges from business, education
and community based organizations
reviewed finalists and determined
the award winners. Recipients
were announced at the 8th EduGala
held at Algonquin College and hosted
by OCRI, Ottawa’s lead economic development
agency.
